2012 Mountaineering-Oriented First Aid Course

Course: In order to graduate from the Basic Climbing or Alpine Scrambling courses, you must also complete the Mountaineering Oriented First Aid (MOFA) Course. When you have completed MOFA, you will be prepared to serve as a First Aid leader for a climbing party of 12 on a multi-day outing. Although first aid skills will be emphasized, the critical skills in MOFA are scene management, emergency response, and leading a first aid team.

Come prepared to have fun and be challenged while learning mountaineering oriented first aid. This class offers essential skills for those who enjoy climbing, hiking, and other Mountaineers activities. We will be spending time outside rain or shine, so please come dressed to spend time outdoors. Bring your daypack packed for the trail. Include extra clothing, trekking poles, your current first aid kit and the rest of your 10 Essentials. We have a lot of material to cover so the pace will be fast. The class will be more meaningful if you have done the reading prior to class. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Please bring a lunch to all weekend classes. Graduation requirements: obtain a current CPR card, assemble a full MOFA kit, attend all classes, a score of 80% or more on the final exam. Prerequisites: CPR training no more than 12 months prior to the first day of MOFA. Schedule:
* Feb. 22 and Mar. 1 are CPR classes - it is mandatory you attend one unless you submit a copy of a current CPR card prior to class. Registration:Registration will be available in person at Orientation night (Jan 10) and online starting Jan 24. The course fee is $125 for Mountaineer members and $175 for non members. Olympia Scramble students and Basic Climbing students will have preferred registration until February 1. Open registration will be available February 1 through February 15. Paid registration must be received by Feb 15. We cannot give refunds for cancellations after Feb 15.Register on-line or by phone at 800-573-8484.
