2010 Mountaineering-Oriented First Aid (MOFA) Course

Come prepared to have fun and be challenged while learning mountaineering oriented first aid. This class offers essential skills for those who enjoy climbing, hiking, and other Mountaineers activities. We will be spending time outside rain or shine, so please come dressed to spend time outdoors. Bring your daypack packed for the trail. Include extra clothing, trekking poles, your current first aid kit and the rest of your 10 Essentials. We have a lot of material to cover so the pace will be fast. The class will be more meaningful if you have done the reading prior to class. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Please bring a lunch to all weekend classes.

Graduation Requirements:

  1. Obtain a current CPR card
  2. Assemble a full MOFA kit
  3. Attend all MOFA lectures
  4. Pass the written exam (80%)

* Sep 23 and 30 are repeats of a CPR class - it is mandatory you attend one unless you submit a copy of a current CPR card prior to class.

Registration: At first registration will be restricted to current Olympia Basic Climbing and Alpine Scramble students. Open registration begins August 16th. The course fee is $80 for Mountaineer members and $100 for non members. The textbooks are included: Mountaineering First Aid, fifth edition, and American Red Cross First Aid/CPR for Schools and Communities, 3rd edition. Paid registration must be received by September 24.
