Olympia Mountaineers Wednesday Evening Summer Paddles Build Community
![]() |
Every Wednesday, from May 21 to September 3, the Olympia Branch Mountaineers Kayakers and guests from other branches launched their kayaks out of Boston Harbor Marina at 6:00 p.m. The threat of darkness, rain, shine, gales or calm couldn’t keep these salty souls off the water. Some evenings were spent cruising the shoreline and chatting, while others included skill development and occasional water blasts up the nose. There was even some wind waves and boat wake to surf now and again. A major component to the kayaking community is trips for the sake of enjoyment. Trips are the threads that create the frabric of our community. It’s what keeps us paddling and members of the club. Thanks to the leadership of Bob Burreson, our faithful Wednesday paddle advocated and organizer, 34 different paddlers participated on 16 successive Wednesdays. Overall we had a grand total of 165 participants – an average of over 10 each trip. Bob was there every week.
